Massive Demurrers led by Congress workers have broken out across Madhya Pradesh following controversial commentary made by BJP minister Vijay Shah against Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, a elderly Muslim officer serving as the prophet for the Indian Army. Demonstrations took place in metropolises including Indore, Bhopal, Badnawar, and Khandwa, where protesters defaced Shah’s nameplates and set his effigies ablaze.
The outrage was sparked after Shah allegedly apprehended Colonel Qureshi as the” family of terrorists,” egging wide commination from political leaders and civil society. Protesters cried taglines similar as “ Modi Muradabad ” and “ Vijay Shah Muradabad, ” accusing the BJP of promoting a divisive and misogynistic testament.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge demanded Shah’s immediate junking from office, calling the reflections insular, nasty, and a trouble to public concinnity. He further accused the BJP and RSS of harboring ananti-women and collaborative mindset.
In response to the growing counterreaction, Vijay Shah issued a public reason, claiming his statements had been misinterpreted and asserting his respect for Colonel Qureshi. He stated, “ If my statement hurt anyone, I’m ready to apologise ten times over. “Still, his reason has not been enough to stem public wrathfulness.
Adding to the pressure, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has ordered an FIR to be registered against Shah within four hours, citing that his reflections disrespected not just Colonel Qureshi but also the Indian Army as a whole. The court emphasized the threat of collaborative pressure arising from similar statements.
Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, who has been serving in the Indian Army’s Signals Corps since 1999, earned public recognition during Operation Sindoor for her strategic communication skills. In 2016, she made history as the first Indian womanish officer to lead a transnational military exercise, solidifying her part as a reputed figure in the fortified forces.
