WAPDA is committed to contributing to a green and thriving Pakistan by finishing its projects to make water available for agriculture, according to its chairman.
Previously, the project management updated the Chairman on the expansion of the Kachhi canal. The expansion of the Kachhi Canal is being accomplished via three separate contracts with a total cost of Rs 19,504 billion. The existing main canal will be extended by 40 kilometers as part of the project (Km).
In addition, a 32-kilometer-long water distribution system would be built in the command area to irrigate an additional 60,000 acres of land in the Balochistan district of Dera Bugti. Dera Bugti district is where the canal, with a discharge capacity of 6000 cusecs, enters Balochistan from the Muzaffargarh district of Punjab’s Taunsa Barrage.
Kachhi Canal is an essential project for alleviating poverty and eradicating extremism in remote and underdeveloped regions of Balochistan through the development of irrigated agriculture and an agro-based economy. It is a good sign for Balochistan that the land being cultivated in Sui and neighboring parts of Dera Bugti district via the existing Kachhi Canal has resulted in a remarkable improvement in the locals’ standard of living.
