The Saudi Pro League team announced on Thursday that Cristiano Ronaldo had extended his contract with Al Nassr by two years, keeping the Portugal forward with the team past his 42nd birthday.

After leaving Manchester United to become a free agent, Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in 2022 and has since made 105 appearances for them across all competitions, scoring 93 goals.

“A new chapter starts. Same dream, same passion. In an X post, Ronaldo stated, “Let’s work together to create history.”

Shortly after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Ronaldo signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Al Nassr.

According to Forbes, that made him the highest-paid athlete in the world, and he has been at the top of the list for the past three years.

Ronaldo is projected to have made $275 million in total at the age of 40.

Portugal defeated Spain in the final this month to capture their second UEFA Nations League trophy, and the forward hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down.

Ronaldo is aiming to reach the 1,000-goal mark in his career as well. He has scored 138 goals for Portugal and 794 goals for his club, bringing his total to 932.

His entrance in Saudi Arabia paved the way for a number of well-known European players, including Karim Benzema, Ronaldo’s former Real Madrid colleague, to join the SPL.

Despite winning the Arab Club Champions Cup with Al Nassr, Ronaldo has failed to lead the team to the SPL championship; their best results came in 2022–2023 and 2023–2024 as runners-up. Last season, they came in third.
