The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has confirmed that a total lunar eclipse will take place on March 3, 2026, during the holy month of Ramadan.

According to official information, the eclipse will be visible in several parts of the world, including Asia, Australia and the Americas. In Pakistan, the event will be partially visible at the time of moonrise, as the earlier phases of the eclipse will occur during daylight hours.

Local observers will mainly be able to see the final stages of the eclipse as the moon rises and the Earth’s shadow gradually moves away.

The official timeline of the eclipse is as follows:

  • Penumbral Eclipse Begins: 01:44 PM
  • Partial Eclipse Begins: 02:50 PM
  • Total Eclipse Begins: 04:05 PM
  • Maximum Eclipse: 04:34 PM
  • Total Eclipse Ends: 05:03 PM
  • Partial Eclipse Ends: 06:17 PM
  • Penumbral Eclipse Ends: 07:23 PM

A total lunar eclipse, often referred to as a “Blood Moon,” occurs when the Earth comes directly between the Sun and the Moon. During this alignment, the Earth’s shadow falls on the Moon, giving it a reddish appearance.

This will be the only total lunar eclipse of 2026 and the last one until late 2028. Although the early stages will not be visible in Pakistan due to daylight, the evening timing will allow skywatchers to observe the closing phases as darkness sets in.
