Denmark recently introduced innovative regulations to give Danish companies flexibility and simplify processes for foreign employees. New regulations allow certain foreign workers employed by Danish subsidiaries to work in the country for short periods without needing work or residence permits.
This strategic measure aims to increase flexibility and create more business opportunities for Danish companies.
Key Exemptions and Eligibility Criteria
This exemption targets explicitly foreign nationals employed by subsidiaries of Danish companies. These people can work in Denmark for 15 days every six months, divided into two periods, with a mandatory 14-day break between the two periods.

To benefit from this exemption, the foreign worker must be employed in a foreign branch or subsidiary of a Danish-registered company with 50 or more employees. Furthermore, eligibility is determined by the foreign worker’s legal right to enter and reside in Denmark through the citizenship of a visa-free country or possession of a valid visa under the new system.
Industry-Specific Restrictions
The exemption is limited to mid-career and high-skilled jobs in certain sectors to ensure responsible use and alignment with national labor market priorities. These include building and construction, agriculture, forestry and horticulture, cleaning, window cleaning, hotels and restaurants, and freight transport.
Government’s Balanced Approach
Danish Minister of Immigration and Integration Kaare Dyvvad Beg, on behalf of the Social Democratic Party, praised the balanced approach of the new exemption. Mr.Bek stressed that Danish companies should be OK with bringing employees from overseas branches to Denmark for general meetings, etc.
The aim is to find a balance that takes into account businesses’ needs for flexible regulation while at the same time ensuring that exemptions are not abused.
Overall Impact and Implications
Introducing this exemption aims to streamline the foreign worker process and enable the provision of foreign worker expertise and skills to Danish companies more efficiently. This move aligns with Denmark’s efforts to attract international talent, foster economic growth, and create a more dynamic and competitive business environment.
The government’s proactive measures reflect a strategic vision to position Denmark as a global talent and innovation center.
