Direct Karachi-Skardu Flights Launched to Promote Tourism in GB
Media sources state that Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has begun offering direct flights from Karachi to Skardu in an effort to boost travel to Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).

At Skardu Airport, the first PIA Airbus-a320 touched down with 178 passengers and 8 staff members aboard. The direct flights were introduced, according to GB Governor Raja Jalal Hussain Maqpoon, for the convenience of the inhabitants and to increase tourism.
In addition, the governor mentioned that the provincial and federal governments work together to promote tourism in the area. Prior to this, PIA began operating a direct, twice-weekly flight from Lahore to Skardu.
To further promote tourism, he said that future plans include for the establishment of international flights from Great Britain. The Governor further said that efforts are being made to convert Skardu Airport into an all-weather international airport.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) granted North Air, a brand-new private airline, a Tourism Promotion and Regional Integration (TPRI) licence in order to boost tourism in the area. Domestic flights will be offered by the airline from Islamabad to Gwadar, Skardu, Chitral, and Gilgit.
