Minsk, Belarus — In a significant move to deepen economic cooperation, Belarus has formally invited Pakistan to collaborate on the joint assembly of electric buses. The offer was extended by Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko during high-level discussions with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held in Minsk last week.
The proposed joint venture aims to enhance green mobility and reflects Belarus’s commitment to supporting clean energy initiatives in emerging markets. This strategic collaboration is expected to bolster bilateral ties and open new avenues in sustainable transportation technologies.
Strengthening Trade Ties Through Industrial Collaboration
President Lukashenko emphasized the strong trade relationship between the two nations, particularly highlighting Belarus’ tractor industry. Known as a cornerstone of the Belarusian economy, the country’s tractor exports have consistently contributed to its economic growth. With Pakistan being a major recipient, Lukashenko expressed confidence in a further increase in tractor shipments to the South Asian nation in 2025.
In addition to tractors, discussions also covered the potential export of other heavy machinery including utility vehicles, trucks, and quarry equipment. These developments underscore the growing scope of industrial and technological cooperation between Belarus and Pakistan.
Focus on Electric Mobility and Green Energy
The electric bus assembly proposal is part of a broader vision by Belarus to expand into clean and sustainable technologies. As countries worldwide shift towards renewable energy and electric transportation, Belarus is positioning itself as a strategic partner for nations like Pakistan looking to embrace environmentally friendly solutions.
By combining Pakistan’s growing demand for modern transportation infrastructure with Belarus’s manufacturing expertise, the collaboration could significantly contribute to the region’s green energy goals.
