Electricity prices in Pakistan are likely to see a reduction of Rs0.72 per unit under the monthly fuel price adjustment, following a request submitted by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA).
According to details shared on Wednesday, the CPPA has formally approached the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) seeking a reduction in electricity tariffs for November. Nepra is scheduled to hear and decide on the request on December 31.
Data submitted to Nepra shows that power distribution companies supplied a total of 7.813 billion units of electricity during November. The average cost of electricity generation stood at Rs6.16 per unit for the month.
In terms of the energy mix, hydropower remained the largest source, contributing 39.16 percent to total electricity generation. Imported coal accounted for 5.06 percent, while domestic coal contributed 9.34 percent. Electricity generated from gas stood at 8.44 percent.
The CPPA report further stated that domestic LNG contributed 8.64 percent to power generation in November, whereas furnace oil accounted for a significant 25.23 percent of total electricity production.
Nepra will review the CPPA’s request and supporting data before issuing a final decision on whether consumers will receive the proposed reduction in electricity tariffs under the monthly fuel adjustment.
