Grok, the first product from Elon Musk’s previously revealed AI business xAI, was just released. This directly competes with ChatGPT from OpenAI and other chatbots that use generative AI.Musk just made his chatbot public on X, claiming that it is “the best there is” in “some elements.” Grok is currently surpassing GPT 3.5 on a variety of academic assessments, including as coding and math. Based on a novel engine named Grok-1, the chatbot Grok is powered by real-time data from X.According to xAI, in a series of evaluations using common machine-learning benchmarks intended to measure math and reasoning skills, Grok surpassed all other models in its compute class, including ChatGPT-3.5 and Inflection-1. It was only outperformed, though, by models like GPT-4 that were trained using a notably greater volume of training data and computing power.

xAI assessed Grok, Claude-2, and GPT-4 on the 2023 Hungarian national high school exams in mathematics in addition to the regular machine learning criteria. GPT-4 obtained a B grade with a score of 68%, whereas Grok and Claude-2 both received C grades with scores of 59% and 55%, respectively.Musk added that Grok is built to reply with a hint of humor and sarcasm. Additionally, it will “answer spicy questions that most other AI systems reject.”Grok is still in its early beta phase, but xAI claims that it is progressing quickly each week. Additionally, the company is aiming to add extra security features to make sure that Grok isn’t used maliciously.
Currently, Grok is only available to a limited number of users in the United States and is offered as part of the X Premium Plus subscription for $16 per month.
