Elon Musk, a multibillionaire businessman, has vowed to start a new political party in the US, calling it the “America Party,” if President Donald Trump’s massive domestic spending bill is approved by Congress.

The head of SpaceX and Tesla called the Republican-backed bill “insane spending” in a series of posts on his social media platform, X, which would raise the national debt ceiling by a record $5 trillion.

Musk urged people to demand an alternative, saying the law highlights the presence of what he called a “Democrat-Republican uniparty.”

“This bill’s outrageous spending makes it clear that we live in a one-party nation—the PORKY PIG PARTY!!” Musk denigrated Trump’s signature law in a post on X.

“It’s time for a new political party that genuinely cares about the people,” he continued.

The statements are made as the Senate scrambles to approve the contentious domestic policy package before the deadline of July 4. The package has drawn opposition from Democrats as well as one of the GOP’s largest financial donors. It features a number of tax cuts, infrastructure subsidies, and increases in defense expenditure.

Once a key player in Trump’s White House inner circle, Musk has expressed his displeasure with the former president’s economic policies more and more in recent months. As the law approached final passage this week, his vocal disagreement with Trump, which has been reflected on social media, peaked.

Musk wrote, “The America Party will be formed the next day if this crazy spending bill passes.” “In order for the people to truly have a voice, our nation needs an alternative.”

“If it is the last thing I do on this Earth,” he added, warning Republican lawmakers of the electoral repercussions. “They will lose their primary next year.”

In response to Musk’s remarks, the White House played down the billionaire’s anger, claiming that the bill’s phase-out of electric vehicle subsidies, a major source of support for Tesla, was the reason for his opposition.

“I think Elon is a great guy, and I have no doubt that he will succeed no matter what. Over the weekend, Trump told Fox News, “He’s a smart guy.”

Musk, who oversaw the Trump administration’s short-lived Department of Government Efficiency, has long expressed his worries about the growing national debt and what he sees as Washington’s fiscal irresponsibility. Additionally, he has previously suggested creating a third party; on June 5, he most recently asked his X followers if they were in favor of the proposal.

Although Musk’s pledge to start a new party might not come to be right away, political analysts point out that his growing criticism of the Republican establishment may further polarize the conservative base in the run-up to the 2026 midterm elections.

It’s more than simply noise. According to political expert Danielle McBride of the Washington Institute, Musk has exceptional sway over a particular demographic of voters, especially younger, tech-savvy conservatives. “His rejection of Trump’s bill and the GOP as a whole may have actual electoral repercussions.”

Musk has long promoted deregulation, fiscal restraint, and a smaller federal role, all of which would likely be at the heart of the proposed “America Party” agenda.

However, detractors contend that Musk’s political endeavors are frequently inconsistent, as evidenced by his prior endorsements of candidates ranging from Trump to centrist and even liberal candidates.

Some commentators have questioned the gravity of his most recent political announcement due to his repeated reversals, which include removing critical posts and retracting earlier attacks.

However, his remarks have rekindled the discussion in Washington regarding how millionaires influence political discourse and legislation.

Before a final vote is anticipated later this week, the bill is currently still in the Senate, where senators are engaged in a protracted debate over last-minute modifications.
