Democratic lawmakers have released a 2003 “birthday book” prepared for Jeffrey Epstein, sparking fresh controversy after it was revealed to contain a note allegedly written by US President Donald Trump. The White House has strongly denied the claim, calling it a smear attempt.

The 238-page scrapbook, titled The First Fifty Years, was compiled for Epstein’s 50th birthday by his longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who was convicted in 2021 for sex trafficking. The book was turned over to the House Oversight Committee this week as part of documents from Epstein’s estate, which also included his will and address book.

Among the messages from politicians, celebrities, and business figures, the most controversial is a note attributed to Trump. The handwritten message, accompanied by a drawing of a woman’s body, refers to “a wonderful secret” shared between him and Epstein. Democrats released the excerpt on X, demanding further disclosure of Epstein-related files.

Trump has rejected the authenticity of the note, calling it “false, malicious, and defamatory.” He has already filed a $10 billion lawsuit against the Wall Street Journal, its reporters, and publisher Rupert Murdoch, after the paper first reported on the alleged note. “These are not my words, not the way I talk. Also, I don’t draw pictures,” Trump said in response.

The book also reportedly features messages from former US president Bill Clinton, British politician Peter Mandelson, and references to Prince Andrew. Clinton’s spokesperson reiterated he knew nothing of Epstein’s crimes, while Mandelson’s office said he regretted having been introduced to Epstein. Prince Andrew has consistently denied allegations of wrongdoing.

The release has intensified calls for transparency on Epstein’s network, with lawmakers urging the publication of more files linked to his dealings. Epstein died in prison in 2019 while facing federal sex trafficking charges, but his ties with global elites continue to fuel political and public debate.

The White House has dismissed the latest claims, saying the president “did not write or sign” the note, and described the episode as an attempt to damage him ahead of the 2024 election season.
