If you created a childish or embarrassing email address years ago and have been stuck with it ever since, Google may finally have some good news.
Google has quietly introduced a long-requested feature that allows Gmail users to change their existing email address without losing their data. Until now, Gmail users had no option to edit their email ID and were forced to create an entirely new account if they wanted a more professional address.
According to Google’s official account help page, Gmail users will now be able to update their email address while keeping their emails, files, and account data intact. This marks a major shift from Google’s long-standing policy, which clearly stated that email addresses could not be changed.
Interestingly, the instructions for this feature are currently available only on the Hindi version of Google’s support page. This suggests that the rollout has initially begun in India. The help page also mentions that the feature will be introduced gradually, indicating that users in other countries will receive access in phases.
At the same time, the English version of Google’s support page still says that Gmail addresses cannot be changed, highlighting that the update has not yet been fully rolled out worldwide.
So far, Google has not made any official announcement or shared a timeline for global availability. However, the appearance of detailed instructions on the support page strongly suggests that testing or early deployment is already underway.
Once widely available, the feature could be a major relief for millions of users who created their Gmail accounts at a young age and now want a more professional or appropriate email address without starting from scratch.
