Facebook and Twitter Still Not Working in Pakistan
The PTA spokesperson confirmed that internet services had been restored throughout the country, but no instructions had been received regarding the restoration of social media platforms.
In response to political unrest, the government had previously banned internet access and blocked social media sites such as YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. This resulted in a significant economic setback, with a nearly 50% decline in point-of-sale transactions processed through the country’s main digital payment systems on the day following Imran Khan’s arrest.

The IT and telecom sectors also experienced substantial losses in the preceding three days.
Following the Supreme Court’s ruling that Imran Khan’s arrest was unlawful, the decision to restore internet connectivity was made.
However, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah stated earlier today that the restoration would remain suspended until those involved in violence and property damage during recent protests were apprehended.

Amnesty International has called on Pakistani authorities to lift the internet restrictions. Rimmel Mohydin emphasized the urgent need to stabilize the situation in Pakistan, highlighting that the restrictions violate human rights and pose a threat to further casualties.
