The 35-year-old singer had the most nominations of the night, with six in total. She was up for big awards like Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Favorite Female Pop Artist for her popular album The Tortured Poets Department.
Fans were excited to see her, either outside the event or watching online. But as the red carpet ended without her showing up, many fans were left disappointed. Soon, social media was full of posts talking about her absence.
One fan joked on X (formerly Twitter) by sharing a photo of the empty red carpet, saying, “Taylor Swift has arrived at #AMAs.” Another used a Mean Girls meme to show their disappointment, writing, “Me realizing Taylor Swift isn’t even showing up to the #AMAs.”
Even though she didn’t appear on the red carpet, Swift was still an important part of the night. She already holds 40 AMA awards and had the chance to win more.
The show was hosted by Jennifer Lopez and included performances by stars like Benson Boone, Gwen Stefani, Lainey Wilson, Blake Shelton, and Gloria Estefan. Celebrities such as Ciara, Cara Delevingne, Wayne Brady, and streamer Kai Cenat were also part of the event as presenters.
The AMAs also honored music legends — Janet Jackson received the Icon Award, and Sir Rod Stewart was given the Lifetime Achievement Award.
