Bollywood filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan has spoken openly about nepotism in the film industry, expressing empathy for outsiders who struggle to find their place in Bollywood. During a conversation on Sania Mirza’s podcast, she said she understands why many aspiring actors and artists feel frustrated when they see star kids getting easier opportunities.
Farah said that people who move to Mumbai from smaller cities and towns face real financial challenges while pursuing their dreams. “They are struggling to pay their rent every month,” she said. “For them, the struggles of star kids seem very small in comparison.”
She also shared her own fears about financial security. Farah explained that her childhood experiences continue to influence her relationship with money. She recalled that her father once enjoyed wealth but later faced financial hardship, which left a lasting impact on her.
“Till now, I’m insecure about money,” she said. “We lived hand to mouth for years. That is why financial stability is very important to me.”
Farah pointed out that many celebrities today try to create “struggle stories” to appear relatable, even when they have grown up with privilege. She said she is relieved her own children will not feel the need to pretend about their background.
Farah Khan, who is married to filmmaker Shirish Kunder, is mother to triplets born in 2008. Alongside her film career, she also runs a YouTube channel where she shares cooking videos and lighthearted interactions with friends and celebrities.
Her comments add to the ongoing conversation about privilege, fairness, and access in Bollywood, a topic that continues to spark debate among fans and industry insiders.
