The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has once again extended the deadline for filing sales tax and federal excise duty returns for the year 2025. Taxpayers now have until August 26, 2025, to submit their returns, providing them with more time to complete the process. The previous deadline was August 18.
According to the official notification issued on Friday, this decision has been taken to ease the difficulties of taxpayers who could not meet the earlier deadline. The extension is aimed at ensuring maximum compliance and avoiding penalties for late filing.
However, the FBR has made it clear that this extension applies only to filing of returns and not to tax payments. Taxpayers must make their sales tax and excise duty payments within the prescribed due date. Those who fail to pay their dues on time will not be able to take advantage of the extended filing period.
The extension comes as a relief for businesses and individuals struggling with technical and procedural issues, allowing them extra days to complete their documentation. The FBR has urged taxpayers to avoid last-minute delays and complete the process before the new deadline to prevent any complications.
This move highlights the FBR’s ongoing efforts to provide flexibility while still ensuring strict compliance with tax payment rules, maintaining a balance between facilitation and revenue collection.
