FBR Made Brand Registration Mandatory for Selling Products
In Islamabad, the federal government has mandated the licensing of brand names for the sale of unregistered products.

In this regard, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) published STGO 7/2021 outlining the procedure for the issuing of brand registration certificates for tobacco, sugar, fertilizer, cement, and drinks.
According to the announcement, all existing and new producers of the above-mentioned defined industries are required to register their brand for each product with FBR prior to marketing the same.
All existing and new manufacturers must submit an application to the project director (TTS) for a brand registration certificate for all of their products.

The project office shall also provide biweekly updates to the member operation regarding the registration progress of the brand name.
It is important to note that the Federal government incorporated section 40E into the Sales Tax Act, 1990 by way of the Finance Act, 2021, which authorizes FBR to issue trademark license certificates to the manufacturers of certain industries, including tobacco, sugar, fertilizer, cement, and beverages.
