The federal government has approved the launch of a new Gwadar–Oman ferry service, a development expected to strengthen Pakistan’s maritime links with the Gulf region and boost regional trade.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry confirmed that the service will begin soon, as Pakistan and Oman move forward with all formal requirements. He said both countries are preparing to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will set the operational framework for the ferry route. An official Omani delegation is expected to visit Pakistan to finalize the remaining arrangements.
According to the minister, the new ferry corridor will help increase trade volume and attract investment by improving connectivity between Pakistan and Oman. The service is also expected to support economic activity by reducing travel time and improving logistics for goods and travelers.
The ferry route will be especially beneficial for Pakistani expatriates living in Oman and nearby Gulf states, providing them with a more affordable and convenient travel option.
Chaudhry added that the initiative aligns with Pakistan’s vision of expanding regional access through Gwadar. Better connectivity will allow countries across the region to reach Central Asian markets more easily, strengthening Gwadar’s role as a major trade gateway.
The new ferry service marks a significant step toward enhancing Pakistan’s maritime presence and promoting long-term economic cooperation with Oman.
