The price of Sona DAP (Di-Ammonium Phosphate) has increased significantly, crossing Rs. 15,000 for some variants, creating concern among farmers ahead of the upcoming sowing season.
According to sources, the recommended retail price of a standard 50 kg bag is now around Rs. 14,633, while other variants are priced near Rs. 14,583. Some specialised versions have reached up to Rs. 15,083 per bag, showing an increase of about Rs. 200.
The price rise is mainly due to higher diesel costs and changes in international fertilizer rates, which have increased production and transportation expenses for manufacturers and suppliers.

Farmers have expressed concern over the situation and are urging the government to keep a close check on fertilizer prices, provide targeted subsidies, and improve import processes to avoid further instability in the market.
Industry sources say the increase is necessary to maintain supply and manage rising operational costs, especially after diesel prices crossed Rs. 520 per litre.
Farmers are being advised to plan their fertilizer purchases early through authorised dealers and use a balanced mix of fertilizers such as Sona Urea, SSP, and micronutrients like zinc and boron, as prices may continue to fluctuate.
