Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb has called for a stronger role for emerging markets and developing economies in global economic governance, saying their growing contribution to global GDP and growth must be reflected in international decision-making structures.

Speaking in an interview with the Saudi Press Agency during the second AlUla Conference for Emerging Market Economies, the finance minister stressed the importance of coordinated dialogue and collective policy responses in an increasingly complex global environment.

He thanked the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for hosting the conference and described it as a timely platform for finance ministers and central bank governors to exchange views at a time marked by geopolitical tensions, trade fragmentation, and rapid technological shifts, particularly in artificial intelligence.

Aurangzeb noted that since the first edition of the conference, the global economic landscape has changed considerably, increasing the need for structured yet open engagement among policymakers. He said such forums allow emerging economies to share experiences, align strategies, and enhance cooperation in tackling shared challenges.

Referring to the conference’s opening sessions, he highlighted the rising economic weight of emerging and developing economies, emphasizing that their expanding share in global output should translate into greater influence in shaping global financial and economic policies.

He underlined that the real value of high-level forums lies in implementation rather than discussion alone. According to him, the objective should not be limited to dialogue, but should focus on converting deliberations into concrete policy actions and sustained execution throughout the year.

The minister expressed confidence that the outcomes of the AlUla Conference would contribute to stronger coordination among emerging economies and help amplify their collective voice in building a more inclusive and resilient global economic system
