Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has assured the public that Pakistan’s energy supplies remain stable despite rising tensions in key global shipping routes.

Officials stated that national petroleum reserves are at comfortable levels, with no immediate threat of shortages. However, the minister acknowledged that disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and tensions around the Strait of Bab al-Mandeb near Yemen pose serious global energy risks. If prolonged, such developments could indirectly affect Pakistan.

The assurance came during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Petrol Prices, formed by the prime minister to closely monitor domestic fuel markets. The committee reviewed forward and futures price trends, assessed regional and global supply chain strength, and evaluated possible foreign exchange pressures caused by market volatility.

Members also discussed potential fiscal impacts in the event of a prolonged regional conflict.

The finance minister said the committee will function as a strategic oversight body, holding daily meetings to track developments and coordinate with relevant authorities. Ministries and regulatory agencies have been directed to verify stock levels, monitor incoming shipments, manage storage facilities, and prepare contingency plans for emergencies.

He emphasized that any changes in domestic fuel prices due to international market fluctuations would be implemented in a transparent and predictable manner to maintain stability.

The meeting also included a review of LNG and LPG supplies, terminal operations, shipment schedules, and line-pack management. Officials were asked to refine scenario planning and assess economic and fiscal trade-offs related to alternative fuel use and demand management.

The session was attended by Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Leghari, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, along with senior officials from relevant ministries and regulatory bodies.

Authorities said the committee will continue daily monitoring to ensure timely decisions and safeguard the country’s energy supply chain.
