Former COAS Qamar Javed Bajwa Reportedly Admitted to ICU After Fall

Former Chief of Army Staff Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa was reportedly shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU) after sustaining a head injury in a fall at his residence early Tuesday morning, according to Geo News.

The report states that the incident took place around 4:30 a.m., when the former army chief slipped in the bathroom at his home. He suffered head injuries and is currently under medical care in the ICU.

Gen (retd) Bajwa served as Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff from 2016 until his retirement on November 29, 2022, after completing his tenure.

Prior to becoming army chief, he held several senior positions at General Headquarters (GHQ), including Inspector General of Training and Evaluation. Earlier in his career, he served in 10 Corps as a lieutenant colonel, where he worked as a General Staff Officer.

He also has international peacekeeping experience, having served as a brigade commander with a United Nations mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In addition, he served as Commandant of the Infantry School in Quetta.

Gen (retd) Bajwa hails from the Baloch Regiment, which has produced several former army chiefs, including Gen Yahya Khan, Gen Mirza Aslam Beg, and Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.
