Fraud Worth Over 200 Mn Exposed in Punjab Property Tax Record
LAHORE: A recent fraud case in Punjab involving millions of rupees has shown the deletion of tax records relating to property transfers within the province.
Numerous fraud schemes totaling more than Rs 200 million, according to sources, have been discovered across nine divisions of the province.
As a result of the investigation, it has come to light that Punjab’s registered branches’ records of tax collection on property transfers have vanished.

The Senior Member of the Board of Revenue swiftly responded by ordering a special audit to investigate the situation.
The investigation’s conclusions show that throughout all of Punjab’s register branches, a startling 55,441 registries’ worth of documents are missing.
Records for 25,441 registers have been found during the inquiry phase, leaving a sizable gap of 30,000 registrations that are still missing.
According to the information, the divisions of Faisalabad and Multan have the largest number of missing tax records for property transfers.
According to the information, the Faisalabad division reported a difference in records for 37,860 registers, of which 13,000 registries have been retrieved. Meanwhile, work is being done to track down records for more than 24,000 registries.
Similarly, approximately 10,000 registry records were initially missing in the Multan division.

The preliminary inquiry has been successful in recovering 7,000 files, and the search for the other 3,685 files is ongoing.
It’s interesting to see that the Sahiwal division reported the fewest lost files, with only 4 missing files.
Initially, 1,610 registries’ records in the Lahore division were missing, but thanks to efforts, just 353 are still missing.
The number of missing records for the 1979 registries in the Gujranwala division has dropped to 81, while 472 of the division’s 643 missing files are still missing in Rawalpindi.
Additionally, the Sargodha division is currently looking for 549 missing files out of 1257.
Similar attempts are being made to locate 639 of the 875 lost files in the Bahawalpur division. 34 out of 599 files are being searched for in the DG Khan Division.
As soon as the Senior Member of the Board of Revenue identified Member Tax Board of Revenue, Tariq Qureshi, immediate action was taken.
Additionally, Qureshi has stated that a special audit is currently being conducted in the divisions of Faisalabad and Multan to fully investigate this event.
