The project will be launched in phases, starting with the acceptance of the pilot phase by the Chief Minister of Punjab. In this initial phase, free solar energy systems will be provided to clients who use up to 200 units of electricity.
Rajanpur and Attock have been chosen as the first two districts to receive free solar power systems, with the scheme set to start in October. The Punjab government seeks to distribute solar power systems worth 30 billion rupees under this scheme.
In the second phase, the priority will shift to less developed districts across Punjab and make them Solar Energy Cities. Those using up to 200 units of electricity will continue to accept free systems, while consumers using up to 500 units will have access to interest-free loans for installing solar panels.
The solar power systems will be available on a 5-year installment plan, with lower payments during winter when solar energy generation is decreased.
