Fuel oil shipments from Pakistan are expected to surpass 150,000 tons in December 2023 as a result of weak local demand and a recent lull in energy generation.
Pakistan exported 115,000 tons of fuel oil in November, a significant increase above the 75,000 tons that were shipped in October.
A national newspaper reports that shipments are expected to surpass 150,000 tons in December as nearby refineries get ready to clear a significant fuel oil backlog.

In the remaining days of this month, Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL) is anticipated to export 25,000–30,000 tons of fuel oil, and Attock Refinery Limited (ATL) also plans to sell 25,000–30,000 tons.
This month, Cnergyico Limited will export 45,000–50,000 tons, and Pak Arab Refinery Limited (PARCO) plans to sell 50,000–55,000 tons.
The refining industry decided to export fuel oil after accumulating a sizable supply. Winter has arrived, and the sharp drop in temperature has reduced the demand for electricity and significantly reduced the amount of fuel oil used to generate energy.
Refineries notably lose money while selling fuel oil abroad compared to domestically. Refineries in Pakistan are forced to sell fuel oil at a lower price since fuel margins are preferable to diesel and gasoline. Refineries must continue to run in order to avoid closure, as was the case last winter.
