Funds for Kutchery Chowk Remodeling Ring Road Projects Released
Rawalpindi: The Punjab Government has finally allocated Rs1.46 Billion for the Kutchery Chowk renovation and the Rawalpindi Ring Road, two major projects in the Garrison City.
Nonetheless, Leh Expressway and Flood Channel funding remains blocked.
The provincial caretaker government had previously ordered the freezing of all development money.
Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Director General Saif Anwar Jappa told the newspaper Dawn, “The Punjab government has allocated funds for two major projects in the garrison city, and construction will soon begin on these projects.”
“Work on two mega projects in Rawalpindi will start after consultation with stakeholders.”
RDA Chief
He stated that the transitional administration had frozen all development monies, but we told the authorities that these two projects were proceeding and that the bidding procedure had been finished.
The government granted the organization’s request and released the requested funds.
According to him, the RDA had already completed the preparatory work for the execution of the projects, which will be initiated following consultation with relevant parties.
“These two initiatives are not politically driven and were initiated for the benefit of the public in order to alleviate traffic congestion in the garrison city and Islamabad,” he said.
He stated that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will also grant approval for the RDA to initiate the projects. A letter has been sent to the commission, and after receiving approval from it, the projects will be initiated.
Along the Ring Road, he claimed, business zones would be created.
He stated that foreign corporations had been asked to submit proposals for the ideal road route.
The chief of the RDA stated that an advertisement had been placed in the Khaleej Times and that the selection of a firm to conduct the third-party validation of the Ring Road’s route will be completed by the end of March.
The contractor, Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), has also been requested to produce a traffic plan. According to him, the renovation of Kutchery Chowk would shortly commence.
In contrast to land owned by Fatima Jinnah Women’s University, the commissioner’s office, and Police Lines, he stated that land acquisition for the Kutchery Chowk renovation would soon commence.
The RDA has demanded that the government allocate state land for the project.
About the Leh Expressway and Flood Channel, the director general of the RDA stated that the project was in its infancy, hence the government had not released funds for it.
Even so, he stated that the project would be included in the Punjab government’s annual development plan for the following fiscal year.
