The Gandhara Festival Commences with Great Enthusiasm in Khanpur
Buddhist folk singers from Sindh, Swiss artists, and renowned folk singer Sain Zahoor all gave live performances at the first Gandhara festival, which took place close to Khanpur, Pakistan, mesmerizing the audience.

With well-known performers like Wajih Nizami, Markus Hauser, and Loris Peloso, the event featured a blend of traditional Pakistani and Swiss music. Local stonemasons, sculptors, and artists also erected booths at the event to further celebrate cultural diversity.
The Punjab Arts Council’s director general emphasized the government’s dedication to promoting culture, which includes holding festivals with different cultural themes around the state.

The head of the Pakistan-Romania Friendship Association emphasized Pakistan’s extensive cultural past, which spans millennia and includes the Gandhara art legacy.
He voiced that festivals like the Gandhara festival are essential for developing regional art and improving the country’s goodwill. Khanpur’s historical and cultural relevance is aided by more than 30 notable ancient cities on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List.

An Allama Iqbal, an Open University lecturer, spoke at the ceremony and emphasized Pakistan’s ties to the ancient Gandhara civilization and its significant leaders, including Panini, Ashtadhyayi, Charaka, and Acharya Chanakya.
Formerly located along the Silk Route and now along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Khanpur was formerly regarded as a center of learning for sculpting, art, education, medicine, and religion.
The executive director of the Pakistan Research Centre for a Community with Shared Future stressed the value of fostering religious tourism and portraying Pakistan’s Gandhara culture and Buddhist legacy internationally by utilizing Khanpur’s strategic and cultural significance.
