India’s national cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir has received a threatening email allegedly linked to the Islamic State (ISIS), prompting swift action from the Delhi Police. The chilling message, which simply read “I kill you”, was sent under the subject line “ISIS”, according to officials. Following this, Gambhir filed a formal complaint, leading the cyber crime unit to begin tracing the origin and sender of the email.

Gautam Gambhir, a former BJP Member of Parliament and a vocal critic of terrorism, had recently condemned the Pahalgam attack on social media, stating, “Praying for the families of the deceased. Those responsible for this will pay. India will strike.” This incident has heightened concerns for his safety, although police have confirmed that all necessary security measures are in place for him and his family.

This is not the first time Gambhir has been threatened. In 2021, he reportedly received a similar email from a group claiming to be ISIS Kashmir. Despite these threats, the 42-year-old coach has remained committed to his duties. He had recently returned from a family vacation in France and has been away from the public eye during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, a period typically reserved for rest by national team staff.

Gambhir assumed the role of head coach in July last year, following Rahul Dravid’s tenure. His initial period was marked by several setbacks, including a whitewash against New Zealand at home and a series defeat in Australia. However, the Indian team’s recent Champions Trophy victory under his guidance has restored confidence in his leadership.

The investigation into the latest threat is ongoing, with officials refraining from disclosing more information due to the sensitivity of the case.
