On the birthday of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar admitted that he planned the singer’s killing in 2022. In an interview with the BBC, Brar said he has “no remorse” for what happened and claimed it was an act of revenge.

Sidhu Moose Wala, whose real name was Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, was shot dead on May 29, 2022, while driving in Mansa, Punjab. Two cars blocked his vehicle and opened fire. He was hit by 24 bullets and died on the spot. His cousin and a friend were also injured but survived. The attack happened just one day after the Punjab government reduced his security.

Brar said Moose Wala made mistakes and crossed the line by supporting events linked to the Bambiha gang, rivals of the Bishnoi gang. Brar is known to work closely with jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. He also claimed that Moose Wala was connected to the 2021 murder of Vicky Middukhera, a Bishnoi gang member, even though Moose Wala was never officially charged.

Brar defended the killing by saying the legal system in India had failed. “Police, media, even politicians knew about Sidhu’s role, but no one did anything,” he said. “So we handled it ourselves.” He also said this wasn’t about money or fame, but about getting justice for his gang member.

The interview was aired by the BBC on June 11, which was Sidhu Moose Wala’s birthday. This is the first time Goldy Brar has openly accepted responsibility for the murder.

Police have arrested more than 30 people connected to the case. Two of the six gunmen were killed in police encounters. The rest are in jail, but no court case has ended yet. Meanwhile, Brar is still believed to be living in Canada, and India has not been able to bring him back.

Experts warn that this murder has increased the power of gangs like the Bishnoi-Brar group. They are now involved in more extortion cases and using social media to threaten celebrities and business owners.

Sidhu Moose Wala was one of the most loved Punjabi singers. His songs talked about real issues like farming problems, caste discrimination, and identity. His sudden death shocked millions and highlighted the growing connection between crime, fame, and politics in Punjab.
