Google has acknowledged the ongoing graphics performance issues in the Pixel 10 series and confirmed that more GPU driver improvements are currently in development. The company says users can expect noticeable enhancements in upcoming system updates, particularly aimed at improving gaming stability and visual performance.
Since launch, the Pixel 10 lineup has faced criticism for weaker GPU performance during high-demand gaming. The phones use a PowerVR GPU from Imagination Technologies, and some users have reported lag and frame drops in games like Call of Duty Mobile. This led to comparisons with competing flagship devices that offer stronger graphics output.
In a statement given to Android Authority, a Google spokesperson confirmed that GPU improvements are already being tested and rolled out gradually in monthly and quarterly software patches. The spokesperson said that the September and October updates included early GPU driver fixes, and more adjustments will follow in future updates.
These system patches, commonly known as Pixel Drops, often bring new features and performance upgrades. The next major Pixel Drop is expected in December and may include significant GPU optimization.
Experts believe that outdated GPU drivers may be one reason behind the performance issues. Imagination Technologies released new PowerVR drivers in August with better Vulkan 1.4 support and improved efficiency, but these have not yet been applied to Pixel devices. Google’s upcoming updates may introduce these newer drivers to improve rendering quality and smoothness.
If delivered as planned, Pixel 10 users could see improved gameplay stability, reduced frame drops, and better graphics performance toward the end of the year. While regular usage of the Pixel 10 remains smooth, the updates are aimed at addressing concerns specifically from gamers and heavy graphics users.
