Google has introduced a significant update to its Find My Device app, allowing users to view the real-time locations of friends and family who share their location with them. This update, first reported by 9to5Google, builds on the Android March feature drop and is now gradually becoming available to more users.
Unified Tracking: Devices and People in One Place
Previously, Google Maps was the go-to app for location sharing among friends and family. However, with this new update, Find My Device is evolving beyond just tracking lost gadgets. The app now integrates device tracking and people tracking in a single interface, making location sharing more convenient.

The update also improves cross-platform visibility, allowing users to view the locations of friends using Google Maps on iOS, making it easier for Android and iPhone users to share their locations seamlessly.
New “People” Tab for Location Sharing
Android users will now see a “People” tab in the Find My Device app. Tapping on this tab will show the locations of contacts who have shared their real-time location with them. Another section in the tab displays the people you are sharing your location with, along with options to manage or update the duration of sharing.
Google Takes Inspiration from Apple’s Find My App
The latest redesign of Find My Device brings its interface closer to Apple’s Find My app. Google has introduced a split-screen view, where a map appears on top, and a list of people or devices is displayed at the bottom. This layout makes it easier to toggle between tracking lost devices and checking the location of friends and family.
Find My Device Becomes a Central Location Hub
With this update, Google is expanding the Find My Device app beyond just locating lost phones or gadgets. It is now becoming a central hub for personal location sharing and tracking, offering a seamless way to monitor both devices and loved ones.
The update is gradually rolling out to Android users, bringing enhanced convenience and improved location-sharing features. As Google continues refining its tracking services, Find My Device is set to become an essential tool for families and close contacts.
