Google has launched Nano Banana 2, officially named Gemini 3.1 Flash Image, shortly after releasing Gemini 3.1 Pro. The new model replaces Nano Banana Pro across the Fast, Thinking, and Pro tiers within Gemini.

Nano Banana Pro will still be available for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers for more specialized tasks. Users can access it through the three-dot menu inside the Gemini interface.

Nano Banana 2 is also being added to Google Search’s AI Mode. It will be available through the Google app, as well as on mobile and desktop browsers.

According to Google, the new model combines the strong world knowledge, image quality, and reasoning abilities of Nano Banana Pro with much faster performance. The company says it is built for quick edits and faster creative workflows.

The tool uses real-time web data and images from search results. This helps it create more accurate visuals of specific subjects. Google says the model has stronger contextual understanding, allowing it to generate infographics, turn notes into diagrams, and create data visualizations.

Nano Banana 2 can also produce clear and readable text inside images. It supports translation and localization directly within an image, making it useful for multilingual content.

In terms of visual quality, Google claims the model reduces the gap between speed and realism. It can maintain character resemblance for up to five characters and preserve details for up to 14 objects in one workflow.

The system is designed to follow complex prompts closely and capture fine creative details. Google says users can expect better lighting, richer textures, and sharper image quality overall.
