Through a recent Play Store update, Google is making it simpler to reduce the amount of storage space on your phone. A new feature that automatically archives your apps if you haven’t used them in a while has been added to the Google Play store.
This isn’t really a new function because you could previously archive your apps, but you could only do that when you ran out of storage. Before you could use this feature, you also had to clear a few hurdles. Google is now introducing a straightforward toggle so you may turn it on whenever you want.

Mishaal Rahman on X (formerly Twitter) and AssembleDebug on Telegram both reported that a larger user base is now able to access the auto archive capability. You may quickly enable or disable this option in the General part of the Play Store settings, which you can access.
With this improvement, proactive storage usage management is made simpler, allowing you to keep your most-used apps on your device without having to worry about them taking up too much space.
How it Works
By utilizing Android’s App Bundle format, the auto app archive enables app developers to communicate only the critical files needed by your phone. This not only helps conserve bandwidth and storage, but also enables your phone to further minimize package sizes when auto-archiving is turned on.
Google claims that doing so can reduce storage requirements by up to 60% without causing any data loss or necessitating the removal of the app. Your phone will download some extra files if you choose to reopen the app at that point.

The small cloud icon that denotes that an app is not entirely accessible for immediate use will be present next to any archived apps on your home screen.
These archived apps will also be accessible from the “Manage apps & device” section of the Play Store, notably under the “Manage” page. The “Archived” filter, which has just been added to this section, can be activated to only show archived apps.
The auto archive feature is currently being rolled out widely, and several users have noted that it first appeared in Play Store versions 37.4 and 37.5.
