Google Play Store Removes 14 Fake Data Stealing NADRA Apps
As per National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) request, Google has taken down 14 applications from its app store due to a breach of the personal information of Pakistani residents.
NADRA formally contacted the Alphabet-owned American IT firm about this issue. Dawn was able to see records that claim the authority alerted Stephanie Davis, Google’s vice president for customer solutions, Scott Beaumont, the organization’s president for Asia Pacific, Hiang Choong, and the topic.
The problem with numerous programmes (apps) housed on your platform and accessible through the Google Play Store improperly selling and/or sharing personal information of Pakistani citizens.
NADRA claims that the recently withdrawn apps were misleading consumers into thinking they were connected to, approved by, or run by them in some way by using their name and products illegally.

As a result, the apps’ services received unjustified credence. They were collecting personal information from Pakistani citizens in violation of Google’s impersonation policy, which forbids users from using false identities.
The publishing and promotion of such apps using NADRA’s name or log should no longer be permitted in the future. This is to stop illegal activities that include sharing and selling NADRA’s confidential, proprietary information, which could have serious security implications for Pakistan and violate the privacy of residents.
