After OpenAI’s Sora video editing app soared to the top of the U.S. App Store charts, Google seems ready to respond with a bold redesign of its Gemini AI app.

A more visual, interactive Gemini

According to Android Authority, Google is testing a new feed-based interface for Gemini that moves away from the plain chatbot style. Instead, the design introduces a scrollable stream of prompts paired with vibrant images, making the app feel more like a creative hub than a text box.

The redesigned interface was uncovered in a recent Gemini Android build by a reverse engineer who activated hidden code. It’s not yet available to the public, and Google has declined to comment on a release timeline.

What’s new in the redesign

Screenshots reveal several key changes:

  • Shortcut buttons like Create Image and Deep Research now appear at the top.
  • A dynamic feed of prompt ideas fills the home screen, suggesting creative and productivity use cases.

Sample prompts include:

  • “Teleport me to deep space.”
  • “Give me a vintage or grunge look.”
  • “Turn my drawing into a storybook.”
  • “Brainstorm out loud with Live.”
  • “Send me a daily news roundup.”

The aim is to help users explore Gemini’s full potential — especially those unsure of what to ask or how to start.

Why it matters

If rolled out, this shift could make Gemini feel less like a chatbot and more like an AI inspiration engine, encouraging users to return regularly. It also positions Google to better showcase its Nano Banana image model, which previously boosted Gemini to the No. 1 App Store spot before OpenAI’s Sora dethroned it.

For now, the redesign remains experimental — but if launched, it could mark Gemini’s most significant upgrade yet, signaling Google’s determination to keep pace in the AI app race.
