The federal government late Friday night announced a major increase in fuel prices, raising both petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs. 55 per litre.
After the increase, the price of petrol has reached Rs. 321.17 per litre, while high-speed diesel is now Rs. 335.86 per litre.
According to sources, the petroleum levy on diesel has been reduced from Rs. 76.21 per litre to Rs. 55.20 per litre.
The announcement was made during a press conference by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Federal Petroleum Minister Ali Pervez Malik.
The new fuel prices came into effect immediately from Saturday, March 6, 2026.
The increase follows rising tensions in the Middle East, which have caused uncertainty in global commodity markets. Earlier, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) also urged Pakistan to pass higher fuel costs directly to consumers instead of providing subsidies.
Just a week before this announcement, the government had already increased fuel prices, bringing diesel to Rs. 280.86 per litre and petrol to Rs. 266.17 per litre.
