The Ministry of Finance has issued an official clarification, dismissing media reports that suggested Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb had ruled out salary and pension increases for government employees in the upcoming fiscal year 2025-26 budget.

In a statement released on Monday, the Finance Division categorically denied the claims, stating, “The finance minister did not make any such announcement or statement. News reports attributing this statement to him are not based on facts.”

Media Reports Spark Controversy

The controversy arose after several media outlets reported that Aurangzeb, in a written response to the National Assembly, indicated no adjustments to public sector salaries in the next budget cycle. However, the Finance Ministry clarified that the minister’s speech in the National Assembly did not contain any mention of revising pay scales, salaries, or allowances for government employees.

Government’s Position on Salary and Pension Revisions

According to the ministry, the written response was provided in reply to a query from a National Assembly member. The statement further elaborated: “The Ministry of Finance informed the House of the current situation, stating that, at present, there is no proposal under consideration to revise pay scales or increase salaries and allowances for federal government employees in the next fiscal year.”

This clarification indicates that while no decision has been made yet, the government has not completely ruled out the possibility of revising compensation for public sector employees in the upcoming budget.
