Authorities in Islamabad, along with provincial governments across Pakistan, have enforced early closing timings for markets, restaurants, and wedding events as part of new austerity measures aimed at reducing energy consumption.

Under the official notification, all shops, markets, and shopping malls in Islamabad will close at 8:00 PM daily, including weekends. The directive came into effect on April 7, 2026, and will remain in force until further notice.

Certain essential services have been exempted to ensure uninterrupted access to critical needs. These include pharmacies, hospitals, laboratories, petrol pumps, CNG stations, bakeries, tandoors, and dairy shops.

Hotels, restaurants, and food outlets have been instructed to shut dine-in services by 10:00 PM, although takeaway and home delivery operations can continue without restrictions.

The order also places strict limits on wedding-related events. Marriage halls, banquet venues, farmhouses, and even private wedding functions must conclude by 10:00 PM.

The directive has been circulated to key authorities, including Islamabad Police, Capital Development Authority, and the Ministry of Interior, with instructions for strict enforcement and public awareness.

Officials said businesses and event organizers are expected to comply immediately as part of broader efforts to manage energy use and implement fiscal discipline.
