The Government of Pakistan has announced a massive increase in petroleum prices, marking one of the steepest hikes in the country’s history.
Petrol prices have been raised by Rs. 137.23 per litre, bringing the new rate to Rs. 458.40. High-speed diesel (HSD) has seen an even sharper increase of Rs. 184.49 per litre, pushing its price to Rs. 520.35.
Before the hike, petrol was priced at Rs. 321.17 per litre, while diesel stood at Rs. 335.86. The latest adjustment represents a significant jump in fuel costs within a short period.
Petrol: Rs. 321.17 → Rs. 458.40 (+Rs. 137.23)
Diesel: Rs. 335.86 → Rs. 520.35 (+Rs. 184.49)
Just a week earlier, the government had decided to keep fuel prices unchanged despite ongoing global pressures linked to the Gulf conflict. However, the latest revision reflects the growing impact of international oil market volatility.
In recent weeks, fuel prices have shown a clear upward trend, with increases recorded in four out of the last six official price reviews.
The sharp rise is expected to have wide-ranging effects on transportation, production costs, and overall inflation across the country.
