Govt Punjab to Replace Khasra Numbers with Digital Certificates
News: The Government of Punjab is taking several actions to convert the current infrastructure for the real estate industry into a digital and secure one. For this reason, the Punjab government has chosen to replace khasra numbers used for property registration with digital certificates. Using this new system for recording land, the government will retain records with house numbers rather than khasra, khatun, or khyut.
The Punjab Urban Land Enhancement Project has already received government approval, and many initiatives are being taken to enhance the established system. The government is currently planning to use digital certificates in place of khasra numbers.

This is a commendable effort to improve land management across the province. The Punjab Government and the World Bank are working together to accomplish the Urban Land Enhancement Project, which received $150 million from the World Bank.
With the use of this grant, the government will create a digital land management system that will serve as a GIS-based database for property ownership records (Geographical Information System). The government will test Jalalpur Jattan out before rolling it out over all of Punjab.

This will move the conventional system online, making things easier for both the public and the government. On a map resembling Google Maps, people will be able to view the property ownership in a digital format. Additionally, this system will tend to replace the patwari system with a better online system for property owners that is more effective, safe, and accommodating.
The Commissioner’s office has established a special group to speed up this effort and automate land management. Additionally, locals and property owners will be able to file concerns online and receive support through video calls and live chats.
