Government Plans Steps to Tackle Poverty
Islamabad: Syed Faisal Imam, Minister for National Food Security and Research, disclosed that Pakistan has planned steps to eradicate poverty and hunger, such as investing in green and sustainable agricultural infrastructure to shorten supply chains.

Imam emphasised at the 42nd Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations that despite financial restrictions during the epidemic, Pakistan had delivered a $8 billion relief package to the impoverished sectors of society to ensure social security.
Agriculture is essential to Pakistan’s economy, according to the minister, who said that it contributed 19.3% to the gross domestic product (GDP), employed 35% of the country’s labour force, and contributed to the growth of other economic sectors.
In addition, the minister emphasised that a thriving rural economy and enhanced food security were contingent on the nation’s efforts to strengthen the agriculture sector.

Imam disclosed that the nation intended to finance infrastructure, including as roads, food storages, localised electricity grids, and markets, which would significantly enhance food systems and contribute to enhancing food and nutrition security.
