In order to facilitate digital payments, the federal government has mandated that printed QR codes be included on all gas, phone, and power bills.
According to a news daily, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over a meeting that concluded with the decision.
Within a month, the Secretary of Petroleum and the Chairman of the OGRA will draft a strategy to require QR code, PoS, and soft PoS payment methods at all gas stations across the country.
The chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) will examine current legislation to require that digital payments be accepted by all utilities and services.
Additionally, SBP’s updated digital payment goals were accepted. To encourage digital payments, the Finance Ministry and SBP will increase the subsidy cap to Rs. 3.5 billion. Banks would be permitted to charge merchants up to 0.25 percent MDR. The service providers will cover any additional expenses.
Provinces will be consulted as the Government Payments Sub-Committee updates implementation schedules.
