Govt Agrees to Increase Profit Margins of Petroleum Dealers
Under pressure from the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA), the federal government has agreed to raise the profit margin of dealers for motor spirit (MS) and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs. 1.64 per litre.
Following Monday’s meetings with State Minister Musadik Malik, PPDA representatives, and other stakeholders, margins were increased.
According to the most recent agreement, the dealers’ margin on gasoline and diesel will increase from Rs. 6 per litre to Rs. 7.64 in two months.
Instead of a one-time rise, it was decided to boost the dealers’ margins by 41 paisas per litre over the course of four weeks, effectively raising the price of petrol by Rs. 1.61 per litre on top of any government revisions.
It is important to note that dealers initially wanted an increase of Rs. 5 per litre, but Musadik Malik refused to accede to this demand at the meeting last week.
After Monday’s discussion on the subject, PPDA Chairman Abdul Sami Khan stated that although dealers weren’t pleased, they had accepted the suggested increase to avoid strikes. He added that the Chairman and Director General of the Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority had signed the agreement.
