Govt Announces Nisab of Zakat for 2025

The Administrator General Zakat has officially notified the Nisab of Zakat in Pakistan at Rs. 179,689 for the Zakat year 1445-46 AH, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation & Social Safety.

As per the directive, no Zakat deduction will be made from bank accounts if the amount standing in an account falls below Rs. 179,689 on the first day of Ramzan-ul-Mubarak, 1446 A.H.. The first day of Ramadan, which serves as the official Zakat deduction date, is expected to fall on March 1 or March 2, 2025, depending on the moon sighting.

Zakat will be deducted from Saving Bank Accounts, Profit and Loss Sharing Accounts, and other similar accounts maintaining a balance of at least Rs. 179,689. The Zakat Collection & Controlling Agencies (ZCCAs) have been instructed to process deductions accordingly and submit a copy of Form CZ-08 (A&B) to the ministry immediately after depositing the funds into Central Zakat Account No. CZ-08 maintained with the State Bank of Pakistan.

This Zakat deduction applies to savings accounts and financial products managed by banks, asset management companies, and other financial institutions. However, customers who have submitted Zakat exemption certificates will not face any deductions.

Notably, the Nisab threshold has increased this year from the previous year’s value of Rs. 135,179, reflecting changes in economic conditions and asset values.
