Govt Claims 72% of Pakistani Women Are Smokers

Startling information was revealed at a subcommittee meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), where it was revealed that a startling 72% of Pakistani women smoke cigarettes regularly.

The extremely critical subcommittee meeting was conducted in the nation’s capital and was called to discuss the audit report provided by PASSCO and hear a thorough explanation from Pakistan Tobacco Board representatives.

Startling numbers showing an alarming annual cigarette usage of 80 billion cigarettes across the country were revealed by Pakistan Tobacco Board officials. Sadly, there is no information available on the age distribution of cigarette users. However, it was disclosed before the committee that an astounding 72% of Pakistani women actively smoke cigarettes, according to a thorough survey.

Authorities and the general public are both concerned about the revelations, which have triggered inquiries regarding the underlying causes of the country’s high frequency of female smokers.

The Tobacco Board officials also revealed that each pack of cigarettes is subject to an additional tax of 85%, with excise, regulatory, and other pertinent taxes accounting for the remaining 15% of the total tax revenue.

The discovery of the high rate of female smokers in Pakistan has now attracted the attention of the general public, highlighting the urgent need for awareness campaigns and actions to address the problem. Health professionals and concerned individuals are pleading with the government and key stakeholders to act quickly to stop the rising trend of female cigarette smoking and its possible negative effects on public health.

Discussions on creating efficient tobacco control strategies, enacting stronger laws, and boosting awareness programmes are anticipated to pick up steam as the PAC subcommittee’s findings continue to garner media attention. The general public anxiously anticipates new advancements and initiatives to address this grave health issue in the nation.
