Islamabad: The federal government declared a public holiday on November 9 (Saturday) in honor of Iqbal Day. The day pays tribute to Allama Iqbal’s 147th birth anniversary. He is also called the “Poet of the East” and had a significant influence in motivating millions of Muslims on the subcontinent to fight for their freedom from British domination and to found their nation.

Allama Iqbal, born in Sialkot in 1877, is a renowned poet and philosopher generally recognized for utilizing his writing and political influence to advocate for establishing a Muslim-only nation.
His speech at Allahabad in 1930 marked an enormous change in pre-partition politics by offering Muslims on the subcontinent a distinct identity and a clear path to Pakistan.
A Change of Guards ceremony at Iqbal’s monument in Lahore, special prayers in mosques for advancement and prosperity, and other events honoring the nation’s national poet are all part of Iqbal Day celebrations.
Furthermore, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) declared that banks will remain closed on Iqbal Day.
