Hamas has confirmed that a peace agreement has been reached with Israel to end the war in Gaza and withdraw Israeli forces from the territory. The announcement came on Thursday as details of the deal were shared by international media.
According to the agreement, humanitarian aid will be allowed into Gaza and a large-scale prisoner exchange will take place. Hamas confirmed that this is the first phase of the peace plan and stressed that it will not compromise on the principles of freedom, sovereignty, and the right of Palestinians to self-determination. The group also called on guarantor countries to ensure that Israel fulfills its commitments.
As part of the prisoner swap, Israel will release 2,000 Palestinian prisoners in return for Israeli hostages. The exchange is expected to be completed within seventy-two hours of the deal taking effect.
The development marks the most significant step so far toward ending months of conflict in Gaza, which has caused widespread destruction and humanitarian suffering. Observers say the success of the agreement will depend on both sides honoring their commitments and the role of international guarantors in monitoring compliance.
