Lahore — With temperatures soaring across Punjab, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an urgent heatwave advisory to both the School Education and Higher Education Departments. The advisory stresses the need for immediate precautions to protect students and staff from escalating heat-related health risks.
School Hours May Be Adjusted as Heatwave Intensifies
The PDMA has suggested that educational institutions revise their operational hours to avoid the peak heat periods of the day. The possibility of announcing early summer vacations is also being considered if the temperature continues to rise in the coming days.

Commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab have received the advisory as part of the province-wide alert to ensure timely preparedness and implementation of safety measures.
Protective Measures for Students and Staff
To reduce the impact of the heatwave on campus, schools and colleges have been directed to:
- Ensure the uninterrupted availability of clean, cool drinking water.
- Encourage students to wear light and breathable clothing.
- Monitor classroom conditions, especially in overcrowded or poorly ventilated spaces.
The PDMA highlighted the vulnerability of children to heat-related illnesses, particularly when exposed to prolonged high temperatures in enclosed environments.
Met Office Predicts Higher-than-Normal Temperatures
The advisory comes in response to forecasts by the Pakistan Meteorological Department, which has warned of above-average temperatures across the province in the coming weeks. The PDMA has urged all school authorities to act with urgency and responsibility to mitigate potential health hazards during this extreme weather spell.
Call for Proactive Planning
Education officials are expected to coordinate closely with local administrations to ensure swift execution of heatwave safety protocols. The PDMA emphasized that early planning and immediate action can significantly reduce the risks posed by extreme heat, especially for vulnerable students and teaching staff.
