Due to the alarming amount of air pollution, the Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered that all new building projects be put on hold for 6 months, from October to March.
Justice Shahid Karim advised cycling as one of the options to counteract the rising air levels in Lahore during a hearing of the case involving attempts to reduce haze in the provincial capital.
The government’s attorney informed the court in response to a query that there are five active construction projects in the city. One of the Shahdara projects is almost finished.

The Niazi Interchange to Babu Sabu project was given a conditional start date by the LHC in February. However, the provincial government will be forced to share information regarding these’s effects on the environment.
In addition, the high court mandated that water treatment facilities be built as an obligatory component of the construction of ten marla homes.
Justice Shahid Karim instructed officials to levy steep fines for improper parking and car washing in residences at yesterday’s hearing in the case. The fines for breaking the rules are Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 3,000, respectively.
