How to Change Your Gmail Address Without Losing Emails or Data

Google has started rolling out a new feature that allows some users to change their Gmail email address without losing data or creating a new account. This update is being welcomed by users who want to replace old or unprofessional email IDs while keeping their existing account history.

Until now, users could not change their @gmail.com address. Anyone who wanted a new email had to create a separate account and manually move emails, contacts, and files. With the new update, the main account remains the same, and all data stays intact, making the process much easier.

Once the feature becomes available in account settings, users can choose a new email name that still ends with @gmail.com. After the change, the old email address becomes an alias. Emails sent to both the old and new addresses arrive in the same inbox. Users can also sign in to Gmail and other Google services like YouTube, Drive, Maps, and Play using either address. All existing emails, photos, files, and contacts remain safe, with nothing deleted.

There are some limits to the feature. Users can only change their Gmail address once every 12 months. Each account can do this up to three times in total. While the change does not affect linked services, some third-party apps may continue showing the old email until users update it manually.

To check if the feature is available, users can go to their Google Account, open the Personal Info section, and look under Email settings. If the option to edit the Gmail address appears, the feature has reached their account.

This update makes Gmail more flexible and user-friendly, especially for people who want a cleaner or more professional email address without losing years of important data.
